Plantar Fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain and is due to inflammation of a thick piece of tissue, the plantar fascia that runs from the front of the heel  connecting  to the base of the toes.

Plantar fasciitis pain typically starts at the front of the heel bone and may extend into the arch of the foot and is usually described as a sharp or burning sensation.

Chiropractic care may be the solution for your treatment and management of Plantar Fasciitis.

Symptoms

The most common symptom with plantar fasciitis is pain in the front of the heel.  This is typically sharp or burning but may be a dull ache or a cramping sensation.  This pain may extend further into the sole of the foot and is often painful to touch.  Plantar fasciitis pain may be worse first up in the morning, with strenuous activity or after standing all day.

Plantar fasciitis is normally diagnosed from your history and a physical examination, however in some cases diagnostic imaging such as X-ray or ultrasound may be required to rule out other conditions.

Treatment

There are often many factors that contribute to plantar fasciitis.  Once these are identified treatment may include:

  • Extracorporeal shockwave therapy
  • Strapping, heel lifts or orthotics
  • Massage
  • Dry needling
  • Home exercises

Plantar fasciitis left untreated can be a debilitating and chronic condition. If you are suffering heel or foot pain don’t delay in consulting with one of our chiropractors.
